New role for former Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending Commissioner
DALLAS and SAN ANTONIO – The nationwide residential mortgage lending law firm Polunsky Beitel Green, LLP, is pleased to announce the addition of former mortgage industry regulator Douglas B. Foster. He will serve as the firm’s Director of Regulatory Affairs.
Mr. Foster accepted the newly created position after his recent retirement as Commissioner of the Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending (TDSML), where he served in various capacities for the past 29 years. In his new role, Commissioner Emeritus Foster will assist Polunsky Beitel Green’s clients in all phases of regulatory approvals and investigations.
“Doug Foster is a national icon as a mortgage regulator. His reputation is second to none, and we couldn’t be happier about him joining our team,” says Polunsky Beitel Green founder Allan Polunsky. “We are confident that his unique expertise will greatly benefit our lending clients in all 50 states.”
Mr. Foster recently served as Vice Chairman for the board of managers for the State Regulatory Registry (SRR), which owns and operates the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry (NMLS). As an SRR board member, Mr. Foster served as chairman of two committees that explored both the feasibility and the eventual implementation of the Uniform State Test (UST) adopted by more than 35 U.S. states.
“I am very happy to be joining the excellent group of mortgage lending professionals at Polunsky Beitel Green,” says Mr. Foster. “The many regulations covering the residential mortgage industry can be a minefield for originators, which is why I’m looking forward to helping the firm’s clients effectively navigate the required processes and procedures.”
Mr. Foster is the former Chairman of the American Council of State Savings Supervisors, the national trade association for state financial institution regulatory agencies. He also is the former Vice Chairman of the State Liaison Committee for the Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council, which was created by Congress for regulatory uniformity among the nation’s five federal agencies charged with financial industry oversight.
