Doug Foster Awarded 2021 Volunteer of the Year

Austin, Texas, August 17, 2021 – Doug Foster, director of Regulatory Affairs at Polunsky Beitel Green, was awarded the 2021 Ann Chappell Volunteer of the Year at Habitat for Humanity Texas’ statewide Lone Star Summit.

“As a public servant, Doug has spent a lifetime working on behalf of Texans,” shared Amy Ledbetter Parham, executive director of Habitat for Humanity Texas.

One in seven Texans live in a home that is unaffordable. Rising material costs have also made the dream of homeownership an unattainable one. Since homeownership is correlated to improve virtually every societal ill that faces our communities across Texas, the work of building and advocating for homeownership has never been more needed.

“After retiring as Commissioner of the Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending, Doug volunteered in his community and on the board of directors for Habitat for Humanity Texas, but it didn't stop there,” continued Parham. “Even after rolling off the board, Doug continues his service as volunteer, steering our efforts in the legislature to ensure more Texans are able to live in a home they can afford.”

Habitat for Humanity Texas has been supporting local Habitat affiliates (or branches) across Texas since 2005, recognizing outstanding leaders and volunteers at the statewide Lone Star Summit.

The Ann Chappell Volunteer of the Year award is named after one of Habitat for Humanity Texas’ founding board members, who also served as a volunteer for Trinity Habitat for Humanity in Fort Worth. It is annually awarded to honor an individual for his or her exemplary service and leadership in advocating for affordable housing in Texas.

The award was announced by Parham on Tuesday, August 10th in Southlake, Texas.
