87th Texas Legislature 87.7
Vol. 7 – March 15th
March 12th was the final date for filing new bills with very few exceptions. The deadline ended in a flurry of 964 bills introduced on just the final day, bringing the total number filed this session to 6,699. March 12th, or the 60th day of the session also frees the Committees to take action on any bill, not just emergency issues
As a result, we are now shifting the format and focus of these memos from the universe of activity, to the chances of progress in order to not lose focus on the most impactful issues. From this point forward, the Previously Reported Bills sections can be accessed in a separate document. The bills retained in this memo, will only be those Bills on the Move, bills that might still have a chance of advancing toward becoming law.
This memo will be the last where we report New Bills. As the end of session approaches, we will eventually stop reporting bills that received a hearing but were Left Pending without a vote.
The total bill count for the 87th Legislature surprisingly surged to meet prior session levels. The final percentage of bills passed may deteriorate as Covid-19 and Winter Storm Uri continue to dominate agendas and legislators limited time.Statistic on Bills in each of the last four Texas Legislative Sessions
