Issue 89.11
The Highest Bill Filing Number Ever is Hit Before Closing
Director of Regulatory Affairs
Last Friday was the deadline for unrestricted bill filing. This session proved to be very prolific as shown in the chart below. This session, like the previous ones, had about 20% to 25% of the total number of bills filed in the last week. Although the session’s conclusion on June 2nd is still 88 days away, the deadline for bills to be reported out of House committees is on May 12th, giving only 66 days for House bills to stay alive. With a new speaker, the House is significantly delayed in moving bills forward. Only half the bills we are tracking have even been referred to a committee.
Legislative Session | Filed HB, HJR, SB, SJR | Passed | Vetoed | % Enacted |
89th | 8,898 | |||
88th | 8,345 | 1,259 | 76 | 14% |

You will see the list of bills below has been truncated with the closing of bill filing. We have included new bills this week. Going forward we will continue to track all our bills of interest, but we will only display in our memos those bills making positive progress toward becoming law.
