Vol. 8 – March 22nd
Today, day 70 is the exact midpoint of the 140-day 87th Session. The relative quiet in the legislature this past week is like being in the eye of the Hurricane. The first wall was the crush of last-minute bill filing that concluded March 12th. The next wall will be a race against time in committee activity over the next seven weeks, for the May 10th deadline for bills to be reported out of committee. As you see below, only 14 of the 115 proposed bills we are calling your attention to have been scheduled or already had a hearing. There are still 29 of these tracked bills yet to have their First Reading and be assigned to a committee. Although it appears quiet on the surface the political gamesmanship is in full gear.
